Biofouling controls on floating oyster cages were assessed in four Gulf states (LA, MS, AL, FL) by employing two strategies – aerial drying (‘flipping’) of cages and biocide-free, antifouling coating on bags. Effects on oyster growth, survival, condition, and biofouling were documented.
Leslie Sturmer provides extension support to the molluscan shellfish industry in Florida. She conducts applied research in all phases of production management including genetic improvement, management strategies, and evaluation of alternative species for culture.
